NRA Basic Personal Protection Outside The Home Course

This course teaches students the essential attitude, skills and knowledge for avoiding dangerous confrontation and for the safe, responsible, and effective use of a concealed handgun for self-defense purposes outside of the home.

A prerequisite to this course requires that only adult individuals, who are not disqualified from possessing firearms as defined by federal, state or local laws, and have completed the NRA basics of Personal Protection In The Home course.

Prospective participants understand the basics of the laws pertaining to self-defense, must know and observe not only the basics of gun safety but also the safety principles specific to defensive shooting situations. The class is divided into 2 levels the first of which consisting of a minimum of 9 hours, several hours of which are spent on the range, and approximately 100 rounds are used. The essential skills learned are how to safely care, store and effectively use a firearm for personal protection outside of the home.

Upon completion of level 1 the student may advance to level 2 which consists of an additional 5 hours in the range (minimum) and approximately 150 rounds where advanced shooting techniques will be learned.
